How to calculate circumference of a cylinder?

2018-Jul-22 1869

The circumference (some companies call "roll repeat") of a cylinder can easily be calculated by the number of teeth (z), as long as the tooth pitch is known, which is stated as circular pitch (CP), diametral pitch (DP) or module (m).

Circumference (in inches) = z·CP = z·DP / π

Circumference (in mm) = z·CP·25.4 = z·m·π

The labeling industry mainly uses cylinders with a tooth pitch of 1/8” CP. This produces:

Circumference (in inches) = z·1/8

Circumference (in mm) = z·3.175
